Batteries generate heat when they work. If you don’t remove that heat, the system degrades rapidly. Industrial-grade solutions use liquid cooling or precision HVAC systems to keep the “container” at a steady temperature, regardless of the desert heat or arctic cold outside.

The primary reason 90% of people get it wrong is that they focus on capacity (kWh) instead of capability (System Performance).

In my years as an Imax power engineer, I have seen many projects fail because the buyer treated the ESS like a commodity. Here is what happens when you ignore the “system” aspect:

“I just need the cheapest $/kWh.” Cheap cells with poor BMS lead to system shutdowns and 30% shorter lifespans.
“Any inverter will work.” Standard inverters lack the bidirectional intelligence to handle battery-specific safety curves.
“It’s just a box in a container.” Poor airflow design creates “hot spots,” leading to cell swelling and potential thermal runaway.
